Have the time of your life during your sailing vacation on and by the IJsselmeer. A safe sailing area where young and old can sail actively and relaxed under most circumstances. True sailors will not get bored on the IJsselmeer, while around the IJsselmeer, there is ample opportunity for cycling and hiking, plenty of museums and monuments at walking distance from the various ports, and the beautiful historic towns themselves are full of shops, cafés, terraces and restaurants.

Sailing and distances

The IJsselmeer originated from the former Zuiderzee, after it was “tamed” by the Afsluitdijk dam. This means it is a relatively quiet sailing area under normal conditions, even when winds are a bit stronger from time to time. The towns surrounding the IJsselmeer can generally all be sailed to within a day - provided there is wind and it is not coming from the opposite direction - regardless of where on the IJsselmeer you are coming from. Special wishes with regard to destinations, or even a fixed programme, are possible, but are generally not recommended: a good estimation of the conditions can only be made on the day of departure. Contact us if you prefer a certain programme or specific destinations. Moreover, from the IJsselmeer, you can also easily reach the Markermeer, the Wadden Sea and the Frisian Lakes (all via locks). The adventure never ends!

There are countless fantastic destinations around the IJsselmeer, whatever your wishes and preferences may be. There is plenty to experience in all port locations in terms of culture, education, sports/activity and food. We have listed the highlights for you.
